Walk Online Roadshow - Free information Session for parents and carers
Thurrock Local Safeguarding Children Partnership have been offering the Walk Online Roadshows to all Year 5 pupils in the borough every November. As part of the roadshows, we are pleased to be able to offer an online evening information session for Thurrock's parents, carers and practitioners working with children. The session is hosted by The 2 Johns.

Do you know the commodities in Minecraft, Roblox and Fortnite? Do you know by restricting the ‘chat’ in games, this does not stop your child talking to other people and can put them at more risk?
Do you know that having the wrong settings on your social media apps can expose your young person to grooming or put them at risk from Bullying?
Do you know how gang culture and radicalisation online affects your child?
Do you know the power online influence is having on your child?
Do you know that the biggest growth in self-generated images is in Primary School Years across the county?
The parents workshop will look at the online world and how our young people are using it. How they are navigating around restrictions and using the internet without the parents knowledge.
This will include their favourite apps and games. We look at the dangers they face not only from bad people but also how they are being groomed in games. This ranges from receiving gifts by the younger player to being groomed on servers for the older ones.
We will explore how all our young people are being influenced on line and forming ideologies and views that might be diametric to their parents, which can also give them a different view of the world. We also look how influencers work, which can lead our children to conduct dangerous dares and challenges.
We look at solutions that parents can adopt to help keep their children safe which again this ranges from settings on apps to safe use of games and how parents should approach the online arena. We take a look at the Stranger Danger message that parents are familiar with and make it ready for Today’s World.
