This one day workshop is designed to help you improve your understanding of the issues which “ripple” out from each single incident of sexual violence. No crime, however private or hidden, takes place in a vacuum.
We hope that the workshop will help you feel more confident in dealing with any issues relating to sexual violence and abuse, especially in terms of challenging myths where you hear or see them repeated. It is an active and experiential workshop with activities and exercises which will challenge you in positive ways.
By the end of your workshop we hope that you will have:
- a better understanding of who victims/survivors and perpetrators of sexual violence and abuse might be;
- deeper knowledge of the many ways any form of sexual violence or abuse can affect all aspects of the victim/survivor’s life and relationships;
- working knowledge about the trauma caused by sexual violence and abuse and how it affects the brain, the nervous system and the rest of the victim/survivor’s body;
- improved understanding of the various ways victims/survivors learn to cope with those post-trauma symptoms;
- stronger conviction that individuals who challenge sexist behaviour (including rape jokes etc) can really make a difference in the world; and
- clear knowledge of the specialist services provided by SERICC.
