Domestic Abuse workshops hosted by Thurrock Council's Domestic Abuse Manager

Fiona Pallett - Thurrock Council's Domestic Abuse Manager and MARAC Operations Manager - will be running workshops on the topic of Domestic Abuse on a bi-monthly basis. Please see below the dates and topics being covered:

  • 11 December 2025 - Understanding Perpetrator Behaviour
  • 12 February 2026 - Understanding Impact on Adult and Child Victims
  • 9 April 2026 - Risk Assessment and Intervention Planning
  • 11 June 2026 - Direct Work and Safety Plans

Understanding Perpetrator Behaviour:

This training aims to support professionals working with those impacted by domestic abuse gain knowledge to identify perpetrator typologies, understand the dynamics and risks of domestic abuse, and explore effective engagement strategies. Participants will gain insight into the cycle of abuse and the role of power and control in perpetrating harm.

Understanding Impact on Adult & Child Victims:

This session aims to challenge common myths about domestic abuse, highlights the devastating impact of coercive control, and encourages reflective practice around language and assessment writing. Participants will also explore practical ways to support victims and promote safer outcomes for families impacted by domestic abuse.

Risk Assessment & Intervention Planning:

This practical workshop explores the challenges of assessing domestic abuse, including the influence of complicating factors such as trauma, denial, and minimisation. Participants will learn how to identify and prioritise key information for risk assessments, work through each step using a case example, and translate assessment outcomes into targeted, meaningful intervention plans that support safety and change.

Direct Work & Safety Planning:

This training session focuses on adopting a whole family approach to safety planning, recognising the interconnected needs of victims, children, and perpetrators. Participants will explore practical examples of direct work with families, including tools for engaging children safely, supporting non-abusive parents, and coordinating multi-agency responses. The session will also cover how to assess family dynamics, identify protective factors, and tailor safety plans that reflect the needs of those affected. This session is ideal for practitioners seeking to strengthen their confidence and creativity in working holistically with families impacted by domestic abuse.
